7 Valentine's Day Ideas for Kids

Valentine’s Day – A day of love, candlelight dinners and romantic gestures. But what if you have kids who also want to be shown they are loved on Valentine’s Day? Kids thrive on this sort of thing, so we have some ideas for you that will show them just how much you love them and appreciate having them in your life!

1. In the week leading up to Valentine’s Day post a heart on their bedroom door each night, so it is the first thing they see in the morning. The heart can share why you are so thankful for them. If they are too young to read, you can do it in pictures!

2. Spend an afternoon with them creating homemade Valentines for a favorite baby-sitter, grandparents or other special people in their lives.

 3. Bake some heart shaped cookies with them to deliver to neighbors, seniors they know or their best friend.

 4. Let them create some Valentine’s Day decorations and decorate the house with their creations!

 5. Hunker down with pillows, blankets and plenty of popcorn and let them choose whatever movie they want (within reason of course) and watch it together as a family.

 6. On Valentine’s Day, make a special dinner (or lunch if you and your spouse have other plans for the evening) that consists of a lot of their favorite food. Break the rules and eat dessert first and not worry about if they finish what’s on their plate.

 7. Go on a nature hike. Help them find “special” rocks and leaves and other little items along the way. This will also help wear them out so you and your spouse can enjoy your evening 😊 Here is YOUR GUIDE TO HIKING TRAILS IN BATON ROUGE.

Show Them Some Love!

You may have realized by this point that many of our suggestions to show the kids how special they are consisting of just spending time with them. Putting the phone away, not getting distracted by work or other activities. Being present and in the moment will do more for your kids than all the money or gifts in the world.

They love knowing that you love spending time with them, which helps build their self-esteem, confidence and sense of security, which of course, will carry over to all other areas of their lives.
